RIVERTON

PATRIOTIC FUND The following amounts have been received by the treasurer of the Patriotic Fund:—

VETERINARY ASSOCIATION At the monthly meeting of the Riverton and District Veterinary Association Mr J. Ayton (Aparima) presided over 1 Messrs J. F. Weir (Thornbury), J. McConnell (Drummond), J. Haig (Waipango), the secretary, Mr W. S. Hunter, and the veterinarian, Mx - C. Aberdeen, Z.V.Sc. Appreciation was again expressed of the services given to the members by the association. Mr Aberdeen reported that he had made 84 visits during the month, spread over Pahia, Longwood, Ridgway Ridges, Tuatapere, Orawia, Riverton, Gummies Bush, Clifden, Waimatuku, Orepuki, Wrights Bush, Waipango, Bayswater, Aparima, Otautau and Roundhill. Most of his visits had been made to deal with horses. It was decided that the committee should hold its meeting on the last Saturday of the month. DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Riverton District High School, those present were Messrs G. H. Millow (chairman), C. J. R. Inder, J. A. Lee, G. CloughJey, J. A. Wilson (secretary) and F. L. Girvan and the rectoi' (Mr J. W. Martin). The Director of Education replied about the heating facilities and ground improvements at the school. He stated that the annual grant was expected to cover the cost of heating and that there were no funds available out of which the department could grant special assistance, and suggested that representations be made to the Southland Education Board. The rector’s report showed a roll number of 202 secondary department 36, primary 166. The attendance had been satisfactory, but had been affected by colds. SOLDIERS’ CLUB The following additional donations have been received for the soldiers’ club fund:—

CARD EVENING At a card evening held by the Aparima Returned Soldiers’ Association Bowling Club in the Kia Ora tea rooms the winners were Mrs A. E. Thomas and Mi' W. Stenton. PATRIOTIC WORK To help to obtain the necessary goods to make up the parcels for Riverton’s quota, the women of the local Patriotic Committee held their card evening in Mrs Forsyth’s drawing room. Each of the guests brought one ox* more packets as indicated on the list.

Euchex- and bridge were enjoyed, and aftex - supper, provided by the women, Mesdames Index' and Castle apd Messrs G. H. Webb and H. E. Philp entertained with music, Mrs J. W. Martin being the accompanist. GOLF DRAW The draw of the Riverton Ladies’ Golf Club for a MacKenzie Cup match today is as follows:—Mrs W. R. Cockburn v. Mrs R. Dickson, Mrs A. B Helm v. Mrs J. A. Lee, Miss E. I. More v. Mrs J. Stirling, Mrs J. W. Martin v. Miss H. E. MacDougall, Mrs J. A. MacKenzie v. Mrs R. K. McNeil, Miss I. Carswell v. Mrs F. Thomson, Mrs C. B. Matthewson v. Mrs L. Clopghley, Mrs D. F. MacDougall v. Mrs C. E. Beer, Mrs G. H. Webb v. Mrs S. H. Mitchell, Mrs G. D. Keeler v. Mrs F. Conn, Miss L. Gordon v. Miss R. Walker, Miss I. Armstrong v. partner to be arranged. The best cards returned for the b.G.U. Medal were:—Mrs W. R. Cockburn 95-23-72; Miss E.I. More 94-16-7 S; Mrs J. Stirling 118-36-82; Mrs R.
