WAIMAHAKA

SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS The monthly meeting of the Waimahaka School Committee was presided over by Mr A. Mitchell. Those present were Messrs T. K. Millar, J. Stewart, W. Stirling (secretary), and R. Kennedy (head master). The head master reported that the roll stood at 50 and that the children would visit the Wyndham dental clinic

Crighton presided at the monthly meeting of the Waimahaka Hall Committee, at which the secretary, Mr. R. Kennedy, reported that the funds had benefited by £4 as a result of the Saturday night dance. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE At a meeting of the executive of the Patriotic Committee, Mr J. Beattie presided over -Messrs R. Kennedy (secretary), A. S. Holms, W. Stirling, J. Templeton and G. Somerville. The secretary reported that the collection from Waimahaka and surrounding districts had amounted to more than £3OO, and it was decided to give £2OO to the Red Cross and the balance to the patriotic funds. FAREWELL SOCIAL A farewell social to Mr and Mrs W. Johnson was held in the hall, when an interesting programme of games and musical items was much enjoyed. The

competitions were arranged by Mesdames J. W. Fox and W. Stirling, Mr Evans gave violin solos, and Messrs Evans, G. and B. Andrews and Gray were heard in vocal quartettes. The Rev. Carmichael, in presenting the guests of the evening with a dinner H>n, with a fountain pen and a for their young son, referred to the good work they had done for the Presbyterian Church.
