Cold And Changeable

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, June 24. The special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office is:— Strong west to south-west winds. Weather cold and changeable, with passing showers, hut improving gradually inland. Sea rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Passing showers in the western districts and far south; elsewhere continuing fair, but some scattered showers extending later to the eastern districts of the South Island. Temperatures becoming colder, with hail on parts of the Westland and Southland coasts, and with snow showers on the higher country. General Situation.—A deep depression is centred to the south-east of the South Island, while an anti-cyclone covers eastern Australia and the Tasman Sea.« Winds. —Moderate to strong and varying between west and south. Seas (New Zealand Waters). —Moderate inshore on the east coast; otherwise rough. Eastern Tasman Sea.— Moderate to strong south-westerly winds and rough seas. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was cold and stormy. At 1 o’clock this morning a strong boisterous wind was blowing from the south-west, the weather being cold, with frequent showers.
