DAY OF PRAYER FOR FRANCE
CHURCH LEADERS’ APPEAL
(United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 14. An appeal for a day of prayer on Sunday for France was made today by the Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop West-Watson), who said: “It is announced over the radio this morning that the, Archbishop of Canterbury (the Right Rev. Dr Cosmo Lang) was calling for a day of prayer for France next Sunday. I am sure that such a call will be warmly approved and I express the hope that the churches of the Anglican communion will, on Sunday next, offer a special prayer at all services for our Allies engaged in the heroic defence of their Fatherland, not forgetting the British troops who are reported to be fighting by their side.” The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand (the Rt. Rev. J. Lawson Robinson) has issued a request that in all the Presbyterian churches throughout the Dominion special prayers be offered on Sunday that France may be delivered from the dire peril with which she is confronted.
