Mr A. Derbie, general manager of the Southland Frozen Meat Company, Ltd., and Mi - W. Falconer, manager of the Makarewa freezing works have returned from Dunedin. Mr A. E. W. McDonald left Invercargill yesterday afternoon to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Wigram.

Mr F. C. Denz has arrived from Wellington to take up his new position as stationmaster at Invercargill. He will take over his duties on Monday. Mr T. Stocker, chief officer at the Invercargill Borstal Institution, who has been appointed to the position of superintendent at New Plymouth prison, was bidden farewell by the officers of the Invercargill institution. On behalf of the staff .the superintendent (Mr R. W. Arnold) congratulated Mr Stocker on his appointment and referred to the good service given by him during his stay in Invercargill. He presented Mr Stocker with a travelling rug and Mrs Stocker with a fruit bowl. Mr Stocker expects to leave Invercargill for New Plymouth soon. Dr J. Frederick Staton, conductor of the Sheffield Choir, England, who was in Wellington recently, and has since been examining on behalf of the Royal Schools of Music in the West" Indies, is returning to New Zealand next month, and will act as judge of music at the Wellington competitions in August, before going on to Australia. Dr L. J. Diamond, a New Zealander who is a graduate of Otago University and who, since the beginning of the war, has been eye, nose and throat specialist at the military hospital at Richmond, Yorkshire, has now been given the rank of major and has been appointed eye, nose and throat specialist for the whole of the Northern Command. His wife was formerly Miss Nancy Aslin, Dunedin. She is also a graduate of Otago University. Messrs M. Pirani and C. Carey, both well known in the English world of music, have been appointed to conduct the practical examinations in music in New Zealand this year on behalf of the Royal Schools of Music. Mr Pirani will arrive early next month, and Mr Carey in September.
