WINTER SHOW AT PAHIA

Fixture Attracts Big Entries

EXHIBITS OF HIGH STANDARD

At the second winter show of the Pahia district there was a large attendance in the afternoon and evening, despite bad weather. . Last year 686 entries were received and this year the number increased to 916. Great credit is due to the officials, who were headed by the president, Mr C. Haslam, the secretary, Mr R. W. Pickering, and his assistant, Miss E. McPherson. '

In declaring the show open, Mr J. Miller, who was introduced by the president, congratulated the people of Pahia and district on the very creditable display. He then declared the show officially open and wished the committee success in the future.

During the morning and early afternoon dog trials were held and proved very popular. In the evening Messrs J. Millar and T. Bailey auctioned goods for sale on behalf of the Patriotic Committee and the sum of £3B/14/6 was raised. Mr W. Pollard, winner of the most points in the dog trial, was presented with the cup given by Mr G. Watson. Miss E. Moore, who judged the needlework and knitting sections, said that in the knitting the socks and bed jackets were of a very high standard and the fine men’s pullovers were outstanding. In the handwork section entries in all events were good, the outstanding article being the first prize article was the first prize in the fancywork section the outstanding article was the first pirze in the coloured embroidery supper cloth class. Mrs T. Ward, who judged the flowers, spoke highly of the entries and said she was - very pleased with the entries in the best arranged bowl of flowers. Mrs Lawson, judge of the pickles and preserves and baking, said that the entries were good and competition keen. The quality of the baking was good, especially the afternoon tea trays.

The work in the school section generally was good, said the judge, Mrs G. G. Printz. The standard was much better than last year especially in the handwork section.

Mr W. Horrell, who judged the root crop section, was very favouraby impressed by the display. The judge of the vegetables, Mr R. Lawson, said that the entries were generally of a very high standard. The parsnips were large and exceptionally good and also the onions. Results:—
