OPEN NIGHT OF MUSIC CIRCLE
“YE OLDE INN” PERFORMED BY MEMBERS Great praise is due to the members of the Music Circle who shared in the production of “Ye Olde Inn,” at the open night at the Southland Women’s Club last night. Mrs J. D. Gilmore, chairman of the circle, welcomed the members ana guests, particularly Mrs A. F. Ritchie Crawford, president of the club, after her illness. Mrs Gilmore said the dialogue had been written by one of the members, Mrs H. Parker, who also composed one of the songs. Mrs Gilmore was the producer. The scene was a garden of an old English inn on the Thames and the story was written to give continuity to the songs which were related to places on or about the Thames. The stage was gay with banked flowers, little tables and garden furniture. The cast was as follows: Innkeeper, Miss M. Tring Crofts; first New Zealander, Mrs J. Berrigan; second New Zealander, Mrs G. R. Milward; Barty, Mrs J. Gasparich; first student, Mrs S. W. Jones; second student, Miss M. B. Campbell; huntsman, Mrs A. Derbie; vendor of strawberries, Mrs B. W. Hewat; George, Miss W. McNaughton; Molly, Mrs E. K. Mills; sandwich man, Miss Campbell; village singers, Messrs Stanley Brown, P. Frampton, B. W. Hewat, A. Derbie, J. Gasparich, S. W. Jones, E. K. Mills, J. S. Brass; village dancers, Mesdames R. C. Barnett, E. O’Byme, A. C. Dickens, H. R. Gibson, G. R. Milward. The accompaniments were played by Mrs A. E. H. Bath and Mrs T. Mathews.
At the end of the performance, Mrs Parker was presented with a sheaf of
chrysanthemums in appreciation of the original and appropriate theme which had been so gracefully performed.
