QUEENSTOWN

COMMEMORATION OF ANZAC DAY The Anzac Day service at Queenstown was held in the Garrison Hall at 3 p.m. There was an attendance of about 200 people. On the platform were the Mayor, the Rev. D. K. Boyd, the Rev. J. C. Fussell and Mr D. H. Cockburn, vice-president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Dr Anderson, in opening the service, spoke of the occasion of the gathering. Apologies were received from the Salvation Army captain and adjutant, who were conducting the service in Arrowtown. The Rev. Boyd opened the service by leading in prayer, after which the hymn “Oh God Our Help” was sung The returned soldiers then placed the wreaths at the foot of the platform, the audience singing “God of Our Fathers.” The Rev. Boyd read the scripture from St. Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians, Chapter six, verse 10. The address was given by the Rev. Fussell, who took for his subject “Unity.” The service closed with the singing of “Abide With Me” followed by the Benediction and the National Anthem. Miss Mclnnes was the accompanist. The returned soldiers and children from the High and Public School formed up, and, led by the band, marched to the Memorial Gates at the park, where wreaths were placed.
