MEN’S HOCKEY
AFFILIATION GRANTED TO NEW CLUB
TEAM TO ENTER SENIOR COMPETITION
It was decided at last night’s meeting of the Southland Men’s Hockey Association to grant affiliation to a newlyformed club from the Boys’ Brigade Old Boys’ Association. The club will enter one team which will play in the senior competition.
The secretary of the Boys’ Brigade Old Boys’ Association (Mr J. R. Morrison) wrote applying for affiliation as a club to the Southland Men’s Hockey Association. The intention of the association, it was stated, was to enter a team in the senior competition, beginning on May 4. Reporting on the formation of the new club, Mr H. E. Perrin said that it had formerly been known as the Boys’ Brigade Old Boys’ Football Club. When the Association football competitions lapsed this year the club considered taking part in a new winter sport. He understood that the club had first thought of entering a Rugby football team in the competitions. The club had waited on the Southland Rugby Football Union but its application had been rejected. At a subsequent meeting of the club, at which he was present in an advisory capacity, the formation of a hockey team had been discussed. Mr Perin said the members were keen and it was possible that the club might later enter an intermediate or junior- team, in addition to the senior team. There were present: Messrs J. D. Gregg (chairman), J. Chisnall, F. Hinton, S. Hunt, E. G. Pankhurst, H. E. Perrin and C. Martin.
