THE SHOOTING SEASON

To The Editor

Sir, —We, the ducks of Southland realize that there is a war on and that many men from this fair land will help the better side win.

We salute all Anzacs, past and present. We know what it is like to be shot at and wounded, and to see our friends killed. May will soon be here and our numbers will be reduced. Therefore I take the opportunity now, on behalf of my friends, to send you 5/- for any fund that will help the soldiers to gain a victory for England and thus keep this country free. In return I ask this: Sportsmen, if you are sportsmen, give us a sporting chance. May other New Zealanders never be shot at in their homes, as we are. — Yours, etc., PARERA. April 29, 1940. [A postal note for 5/-, forwarded by our correspondent, has been sent on to the secretary of the provincial Patriotic Fund Committee.]
