Lieutenant-Colonel David Pottinger, M.C., M.D., M.R.C.P., left for Trentham by the express yesterday morning to take up his appointment as officei’ commanding the Medical Division of No. 2 General Hospital. Mr J. T. Martin, chairman of directors of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, Wellington, is visiting Invercargill. Mr J. R. Martin, Deputy-Mayor of Invercargill, was welcomed as a member of the Southland High Schools’ Board at the meeting of the board yesterday. Messrs F. A. Robins and A. F. Parfitt, formerly of the Chief Post Office staff at Invercargill, who have been visiting the city for post office inspection duties, returned north yesterday. Mr A. L. McCaw has been appointed head master at the Edendale • school. Mr S. C. K. Smith was nominated as a South Island Councillor of the New Zealand Bowling Association at a meeting of the Southland Bowling Centre last evening.
A decision to forward a letter of congratulation to Mr J. H. Hall, a former pupil of the school, on his appointment as war correspondent with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force, was made at the annual meeting of the Gore High School Ex-Pupils Association. Messrs J. T. Martin (Wellington), L. Bullock (Dunedin), W. R. G. Smythe (Auckland), D. Rowe (Arrowtown), J. Ritchie (Gore) and S. C. K. Smith (Invercargill) were guests at the Invercargill Rotary Club luncheon yesterday.
