BONDSMAN SHOWS PROMISE

YON YAN IS RACING SOLIDLY DEBTOR SHOWS PROMISE IN FIRST START Nominations for the Wyndham Trotting Club’s meeting close at 5 p.m. on Friday, when final forfeits for the Wyndham Juvenile Stakes will be de- ' dared. Handicaps for the Invercargill Trotting Club’s meeting are due on' Monday and acceptances will be taken on Wednesday. Invercargill Meeting Embark was omitted from the nomit nations for the Southland Handicap at ; the Invercargill meeting. ' Rider Injured Lunch Hour and Happy King cols lided at the start of the Dash Trot I at Winton and P. Creegan, rider of Happy King, suffered a broken collar--1 bone. / . Erratic Colt Rey Chimes is a fine type of colt by Rey de Oro, but he is proving quite a handful and difficulty is being experienced in getting him to leave the mark. Docs Not Stay Royal Bond has more speed than most improvers about, but the Worthy Bond gelding is not a good stayer. Over a mile and a-quarter at the Birchwood meeting he may show up, however. From Canterbury Great Blaze, Club King and Diversion are three useful Canterbury pacers engaged at the Invercargill meeting next month. Club King is regarded as one of the best young pacers in his class. Premising Filly Debtor is a novice worth remembering. This Rey de Oro filly had her first race at Winton and besides showing plenty of speed she acted like an old hand. Happy Erin Happy Erin has lost all form. He looked like playing a part in the finish of the Dash Trot at Winton but dropped right out of it. At times he has shown promise, but is lacking in stamina. Overdue Win Yon Van’s win against the improvers was long overdue as he has performed consistently in the little racing he has done. After being placed the first day he won comfortably on Saturday, and will be given an opportunity to repeat this form at the Invercargill meeting. Indianola , Indianola found her task of conceding 48yds to fields of improvers at . Winton beyond her. She ran quite useful races, however, and better placed at the Invercargill meeting she is' in the right form to show up. Surprise Winner When Erin’s Country returned a big dividend at Winton, his owner-trainer, Mr J. T. Looney, shared in the remunerative price. The Erin’s King gelding had worked well before the meeting and he was expected to give a good account of himself. Easy Win One of the easiest wins scored in a maiden race for some time was that credited to Bondsman, the first day at Winton. Not at any stage did he give the others a chance and he looks certain to win again at short notice. By Worthy Bond he is out of Lady’s Chain.

Turco’s Effort

In his first appearance in a handicaj race Turco finished third to Bondsmar and June Tide at Winton. The Rey de Oro colt was confidently supported and in the circumstances his efforl was disappointing as he was beater three furlongs from home. He is possessed of a great burst of speed and may become more solid with racing. Not Solid Stanza was an expensive failure al Winton. He tangled in both his races at Winton and neither day did he threaten danger. The Four Chimes gelding is far from solid and in several of his races he has shown up after being hopelessly out of it early. With racing he may settle down, but in the meantime is a doubtful proposition. Reassessments Reassessments from the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting are as follows: Table Line

After some brilliant exploits in the spring, Southern Chief is performing in a fashion that suggests he has once more lost his zest for racing. There is no doubt concerning his ability, but he is so spasmodic in revealing it that he is not a 'good horse for backers. In the Jubilee Handicap at New Brighton he broke and swerved “off the course” at the start. Grand Mogul Grand Mogul, who scored an easy win in the grand final of the Perth “championship,” ran in the colours of Mr G. J. Barton. When the Adioo Guy-Regina Logan gelding, now nine years old, went to the West it was understood that he had been sold, and when he won a race at Fremantle a few weeks ago in Mr Barton’s nomination, it was announced that this was owing to some delay in putting the transfer through. Whatever the reason Grand Mogul thus added just on

£l4OO to the £5OOO he won in New Zealand. In the West he is trained by K. Anderson. A Consistent Pacer Pot Luck’s record for the season is as follows: 16 starts, two wins, five I seconds, three thirds, one fourth. It! is quite in keeping with the order of I things that such a consistent pacer ■ should win a good race like the Jubilee I Handicap. Pot Luck took some time to settle down to the real business of racing, and at one stage he had a very narrow escape from being placed on the schooling list, and he and Renown’s Best were the two debarred from | starting in the New Zealand Cup. There is no high-grade pacer that can be classed as more reliable than the Jack Potts pacer at the present time.
