DEATH OF WAR PENSIONER
VERDICT RETURNED AT INQUEST (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 21. An inquest today into the death of Thomas Egan, aged 50, a war pensioner, brought a verdict of death due to meningitis following an injury to the eye. The injury was received when a .dispute took place between the deceased and Daniel John Mclntyre. Detective Hogan, who conducted the inquest, said that Mclntyre was charged with manslaughter, but the Grand Jury returned no Bill. The evidence was that the trouble arose from a practical joke. Interrupted by Mclntyre, when he found Egan making a dummy to put in Mclntyre’s bed, Mclntyre pushed Egan away, later hitting him in the face.
