NEW SYSTEM OF LICENSING

RADIO RECEIVING SETS IN N.Z. (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 19. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) announces the introduction from March 1 of a new system of licensing radio receiving sets, the main change being that all licences will be for either six or 12 months at the existing rates of 12/6 for the half-year and 25/- for the year. Explaining the necessity for discontinuing the issue of quarterly licences, Mr Jones stated that there were now 335,000 licensed sets in the Dominion and the high proportion of quarterly licences made the system so unwieldly that it was necessary to relieve the post office staffing and other difficulties. The war had intensified the difficulties, the only remedy being the elimination of the shorter period, coupled with a simpler issuing system. The Minister stated in conclusion that neither Australia nor Britain issued licences f" less than a year.
