FOUNDATION STONE LAID
NEW POLICE STATION AT ROTORUA (United Press Association) ROTORUA, February 19. The foundation stone of the new Rotorua police station building was officially laid today by the Minister in Charge of the Police Department (the Hon. P. Fraser) in the presence of a large gathering, including Mr D. J. Cummings, Commissioner of Police, who was in charge at the Rotorua station between 1915 and 1916, and Mr C. W. Lopdell, Inspector in Charge at the Hamilton police district, The building, which is nearly half completed, is constructed of reinforced concrete and provides much-needed accommodation for the nine constables and two officers now stationed in Rotorua.
Tile old building was constructed to accommodate two constables and a sergeant, who comprised the police force in the district when the station was built. Mr Fraser, who dealt with a number of matters affecting the Health and Education Departments during his three-day visit, returned to Wellington by air after the ceremony.
