APPEAL TO USERS OF PETROL

REASONABLE APPLICATIONS URGED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 10. Stating that the Government was doing everything in its power to equalize the sacrifice entailed by the 30 per cent, overall reduction in petrol consumption, the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) issues an appeal to farmers and commercial users to be reasonable in their applications and to remember that the restrictions are imposed at the request of the British Government for war purposes and not for reasons of New Zealand’s internal economy. It was essential that advisory committees should consider every application fully, and he appealed to applicants not to be impatient about what they might feel to be unnecessary delays. Many of the amounts asked for were far beyond the normal requirements of applicants and as a result all the applications had to be examined in considerable detail. Co-operation with the committees and district controllers would not only help the conservation of petrol but would vitally assist New Zealand in her war efforts.
