PART OF ACHILLES IN SEA BATTLE
CONGRATULATIONS FROM AUSTRALIA (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 17. The Dominion executive committee of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association has received the following letter from the general secretary of the Federal executive of the Returned Sailors’ and Soldiers’ Imperial League of Australia, Melbourne: I am directed to offer your association this league’s heartiest congratulations on the magnificent part played by the courageous New Zealanders in the Achilles during the recent battle which resulted in the defeat of the German raider, Admiral Graf Spee, and another sea victory for Britain. The ex-servicemen and women of Australia are proud of the achievement of those who worthily upheld the glorious traditions of the Anzacs. This tribute has been forwarded to the Navy Department for transmission to the Achilles.
