COMPLETION IN A FEW MONTHS

NEW POST OFFICE AT INVERCARGILL If the present increased rate of progress is maintained it is expected that the new Post Office building in Invercargill will be completed in a few months. The construction is proceeding at a brisk pace and in all probability the scaffolding will be dismantled within the next two weeks. In the new building more than 30 electric clocks will be installed and these are to be operated by a master clock. Over the front entrance to the building will be placed a double-faced electric clock.

Only new furniture and fittings will go into the new premises and these are being made at present. The telegraph engineer and his clerical staff will have their offices in the right wing of the second floor as a greater space will be needed by the Chief Postmaster’s clerical staff on the first floor, and as provision is being made for a lift. It is not yet known by what branches the remaining space on tire second floor will be occupied. The only section of the old building which will be occupied by the Post and Telegraph Department will be the right wing where the telephone exchange, part of the mail room and postmen’s branch will be accommodated. It is not yet known who will occupy the portion of the old building not utilized by tire department but it is possible that some other Government offices will be housed there.
