Country Day Cricket Fixtures SELECTION OF TOWN ELEVENS Fourteen cricket teams will take part in the annual Country Day . fixtures arranged by the Southland Cricket Association to be played at Invercargill on January 6. The hours of play have been arranged as follows: Start at 10.30 a.m. and play till 12.30 p.m.; resume at 1.30 p.m. and play till 3.45 p.m.; 4 pin. till 6.30 p.m. A complimentary luncheon for the country teams has been arranged. Following is the draw for both senior and junior games:— Town No. 1 team v. Eastern A team, at High School No, L Town No. 2 team v. Central-Western No. 1 team, at Marist ground. Town No. 3 team v. Eastern B team, at High School No. 2. Town No. 4 team v. Northern No. 1 team, at Appleby ground. Town Junior Av. Central-Westen. B team, at High School Town Junior B v. Northern B team, at High School. Town junior team (under 21 years) v. Eastern juniors, at Marist ground. REFUSAL TO PLAY At the meeting of the Southland Cricket Association last night a letter was received from the Junior Advisory Committee protesting against the condition of the No. 3 wicket at Queen’s Park. “We refuse to play junior B grade games on Queen’s Park No. 3 wicket until such time as it has been made, playable,” wrote Mr A. J. Dawson, secretary of the committee. “At present the wickets are inches above the ordinary level. Also Biggar street east wicket requires attention, there being a large hole at one end, which is dangerous. We understand this should be put right by the Railway Club.” It was stated by a member of the grounds committee that improvements had been made to the wicket. It was decided to take no action. S. J. Dawson was granted a transfer from the Appleby Club to the Railway Club. A cheque for £63/16/-, interest on the association’s Sports Trust investment, was received from the Southland Amateur Sports Trust. It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to A. H. Cutler on his selection in the Otago Plunket Shield team.
