RECORD KILLING OF LAMBS
OPENING OF SEASON AT OCEAN BEACH YESTERDAY’S TOTAL MORE THAN 2000 The lamb-killing season opened at the Ocean Beach freezing works yesterday with a record killing of more than 2000—the greatest number on the opening day so far. The quality of the stock was particularly good and the company was agreeably surprised with the lambs forwarded. Killing started with practically a full bench of butchers and the lines handled were in fine condition. It is hoped to obtain a fair supply of lambs for the days remaining before the holidays, and if a great amount of stock becomes available the works will be open between Christmas and New Year. Present indications are that there will be big killings in January, and any stock slaughtered now will help greatly to relieve the position. The new method the company intends to use for telescoping the carcasses was not in use yesterday.
