WOMEN’S DIVISION

OTAUTAU BRANCH There was a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Otautau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relations of the late Miss H. L. Hunt. The roll call was, “The furthest I have been and what I saw.” Mrs James gave an account of the executive meeting in Invercargill. Mrs Densem gave a talk on bedmaking, and how to attend the patient. It was decided to present a gift to all the men who were enlisting for camp.

Basket work was sold in aid of the funds of the Blind Institute. The winners of the competition for a Christmas gift to cost not more than 2/6 were: Mrs Alex Edwards 1, Mrs G. Densem 2, Mrs J. WRIGHTS BUSH BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Wrights Bush branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union a social afternoon was held with the Thornbury branch. Mrs T. Anderson presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs J. Ward gave an account of the executive meetings. A competition resulted: Best bloom, Mrs R. Slaughter 1, Miss M. Miller 2. A dialogue was given by the Thornbury members, and a piano solo by Mrs

D. Cameron. Miss P. Carter and Mrs P. Anderson gave a dialogue. Mrs G. Carter was the winner of the competition. FAIRFAX BRANCH Mrs Mclntosh presided over a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Fairfax branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Apologies were received from Mrs Meek, Mrs McPherson, Mrs Grey and Mrs Town. It was decided to forward a donation to the North Island Rest Home. After some discussion it was decided not to hold the usual birthday party. The president gave a report of the recent executive meeting. Mrs Chapman, of the St John Ambulance Association, gave „ a very instructive talk on home nursing, for which she was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. RIMU BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Rimu branch of the Women’s division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs W. Emerson presided over a fair attendance. It was decided to give two crippled children of the district Christmas gifts. Competitions for the afternoon were: Three best stalks of rhubarb, Mrs W. Emerson 1, Miss J. Emerson 2. Jar of marmalade, Mrs W. Stewart 1, Mrs W. Emerson 2. Best bloom, Mrs W. Emerson 1, Mrs J. Shand 2. Hostesses were Mesdames A. Dawson and J. Shand.
