RECORD BROKEN BY CYCLIST

AUCKLAND-WELLINGTON JOURNEY (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 30. After a gruelling journey from Auckland, L. G. Lukey (Christchurch), a professional cyclist, arrived at the Wellington General Post Office at 3.28 o’clock this afternoon, 3 hours 13 minutes ahead of the record set up by O. Barnard (New Plymouth), having taken 31 hours 58 minutes. This time would have been considerably better had not the weather been adverse all the way. Lukey was to have left Auckland on Monday morning but had to postpone his departure till 7.30 o’clock yesterday morning. Even then the weather could have been better but as the forecasts were unfavourable it was decided to waste no further time.
