At the monthly meeting of the Wyndham District High School committee the following members were present: Messrs L. Harper (chairman), W. F. Bennetto (secretary), W. Thompson, O. Traynor and D. N. A. Macpherson. The Rector, Mr C. S. Gordon, was also present. The rector reported that since last meeting a start had been made by the primary school boys in planting potatoes on part of the vacant ground at the school residence. The boys were working well and were proud to be doing something to help production at the present time. Offers of seed potatoes had been received from several residents in the district. The new cabinets for the science scales were being made by the boys under the supervision of Mr Kidd at the manual training school. The Southland Education Board was supplying the timber. The chairman said that following the request made to the Education Board at the last meeting for various repairs and improvements to be carried out at the school, Mr J. Gough, the board s architect, had visited the school, accompanied by Mr S. Rice, chairman of the board, and members of the local committee, 'and as a result most of the things applied for were to be carried out in the near future. The Southland Education Board wrote advising that the Southland _ Young Women’s Bible Class Association had been granted the use of the school and manual training school for a camp next Easter, subject to the approval of the committee. It was pointed out that there were more suitable buildings for this purpose in close proximity to the town.

Accounts totalling £6/3/3 were passed for payment. The chairman reported that the concert being organized for the school funds by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union singing class would take place on November 1. Authority was given the rector to purchase books to the value of £3/11/6 for the school library. The matter of having the forms for outdoor use repaired was left in the hands of the visiting committee to inspect and report to next meeting.
