WOMEN’S GOLF TOURNAMENT
MISS SMITH REACHES SEMI-FINALS
MISS HENDERSON BEATS MISS BUCHANAN

CHRISTCHURCH, October 12. Miss Claire Smith (Invercargill) is one of the four players who will play in the semi-finals tomorrow morning of the open tournament being held at Shirley by the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club. The final will be played in the afternoon. Light rain fell this morning when the second day’s play was begun, but conditions improved in the afternoon. The surprise of the days play was the defeat of Miss Helen Buchanan, the Christchurch Club’s champion, by Miss Lulu Henderson (Invercargill). The results were as follows, the players being from Christchurch unless otherwise stated: — FIRST ROUND Miss C. Smith (Invercargill) beat Mrs E. J. Pumphrey, 2 and 1. Mrs H. J. Topliss (Nelson) beat Mrs E. C. Chartres, 2 up. Miss Lulu Henderson (Invercargill) beat Miss H. Buchanan, 3 and 1. Miss N. Morrish (Rangiora) beat Mrs E. Rudkin, 2 and 1. Miss B. Morrow (Ashburton) beat Miss K. Rutherford, 5 and 4. Miss Z. Hudson beat Mrs D. S. McLean, 4 and 3. Miss E. Nutt beat Miss E. WhiteParsons, 3 and 2. Miss C. Holmes (Rakaia) beat Mrs G. E. F. Kingscot, 1 up. SECOND ROUND Miss Smith beat Mrs Topliss, 5 and 4. Miss Morrish beat Miss Henderson, 4 and 3.
Miss Hudson beat Miss Morrow, 1 up. Miss Holmes beat Miss Nutt, 9 and 7. In the semi-finals tomorrow morning Miss Smith will meet Miss Morrish and Miss Hudson will meet Miss Holmes.
