MODERN TRENDS IN EDUCATION
ADDRESS TO PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION A meeting, arranged by the Southland Girls’ High School Parents’ Association, of mothers and friends of High School girls was held at the Southland Women’s Club on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Brumby, president of the association, introduced Miss Eastwood, who gave an informal talk on “Some Modern Trends in Secondary Education.” The speaker emphasized the need of education for citizenship and explained the aims of the intermediate school, the need for revision of the cur-, riculum, in some directions for all pupils, in other directions more partticularly for the average pupil and for the removal of the matriculation examination with its narrowing effect upon educational aims.
A vote of thanks to Miss Eastwood was proposed by Mrs J. G. Robertson.
