MODERATOR IN YEAR OF CENTENNIAL

WELLINGTON APPOINTMENT (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 12. The Rev. Brian Kilroy, Minister of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, is to be Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery during centennial year. He was elected at a recent meeting of the Presbytery. The decision has special significance because it was the first minister of St. Andrew’s, the Rev. John Macfarlane, who conducted public worship, on the Petone beach on February 23, 1840, for the colonists who had just landed from the Bengal Merchant. The present Minister of St. Andrew’s is chairman of the centennial arrangements committee of the Presbyterian Church and his church will be honoured by a special assembly to be held from February 20 to 23, 1940. At its meeting the Wellington Presbytery unanimously nominated the Rev. G. H. Jupp for the position of Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church for the year beginning November 1940. Mr Jupp is Minister of the Anderson’s Bay Church, Dunedin, and has given service to the church. Dr J. G. Inkster, temporary Minister of St. John’s Church, was welcomed by the Presbytery.
