TROOPS LEAVE TODAY
MORE RECRUITS FOR BURNHAM ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR ENTRAINING Seventy-three recruits in the Rifle Battalion and the Machine-Gun Battalion will leave by the express for Bumham this morning, under Captain I. O. Manson and Staff Sergeant Major J. Little and Sergeant A. McGregor. The two front cars in which the recruits will travel will be barricaded off from the public until the troops are on board and the roll is checked. As soon as that is done the barricades will be removed and the public will be allowed access to the cars. . .... . 4 Major H. C. MacKenzie, Adjutant to the Southland Regiment and area officer, stated in an interview with The Southland Times yesterday that the public would greatly assist in the entraining of the troops if it realized the necessity of having the roll properly checked. If there was no interference the whole business would be over in 10 minutes, and visitors would then be free to make their farewells. The same arrangements, he added, would apply on Sunday night, when another contingent of recruits would leave for Trentham and the Waikato.
