BLUFF GOLF CLUB

TOMORROW’S DRAW

The fourth round of the women’s Cochrane Cup competition will be played on the Bluff golf links tomorrow afternoon, Mrs G. D. Bruce playing Miss S. Casey.

There will be a medal round of 18 holes for other players, and it will be on these games that handicaps will be adjusted for next season’s play. The players are as follows: Mrs D. E. S. Mason and Mrs A. M. Wilson; Miss G. Wishart and Mrs Waitiri; Mrs K. Bragg and;'Miss M. Newman; Miss D. Urwin and Mrs H. Newman; Miss A. Sinclair and Miss M. Urwin; Miss R. McKillop and Miss J. Edwards.

In the men’s section of the club a bogey handicap will be played, the partners to be arranged on the links. Play will start at 1 p.m.

POPULAR FOOTBALLER GOES INTO CAMP

Before his departure from Bluff as a member of the Special Military Force Mr Gerald Silvester was met by a large and representative gathering of friends and representatives of sports bodies at a farewell evening at the residence of his parents, Mr and Mrs A. Silvester. In presenting the guest of , honour with a money belt and a shaving set the chairman, Mr S. G. Mitchell, on behalf of the Returned Soldiers’ Association and those present remarked on the fine qualities o£ Mr Silvester and expressed the hope for his early return.

Several speakers including the chairman remarked on the way in which the volunteers had been farewelled from Bluff. One speaker in particular stated that before departing for the Great War all the Bluff soldiers had been accorded a civic farewell and he hoped the next ones to go would be bidden farewell in a proper manner.

In responding Mr Silvester thanked all those present for the gifts and their kind remarks, and said the days he had spent as a member of the Bluff Football Club and as a resident of Bluff would be treasured by him. During the evening items were given by Messrs S. G. Mitchell, L. Mortimer, J. Gallagher, E. Patterson, I. Rita, C. Hannah and J. Sweet.
