FINE DISPLAY AT WAIRIO

EXHIBITS OF HIGH STANDARD KEEN COMPETITION AND LARGE ENTRIES The annual spring show of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union at Wairio was held in the Public Hall. There was a large attendance and admiration was expressed for the quality of the entries. „ _ The president, the Rev. E._B. Stevenson, and the secretary, Mrs J. A. Ayton, assisted by willing helpers, worked hard to make the show the success it was. ~ , , The display of flowers was the best vet seen at these shows and the standard was also high in the produce section. The show was formally opened by the Rev. J. Newlands, of Winton, who congratulated the officials on the fine display. . . , , The prize for the champion of champion bloom was won by Mrs Stevenson (Wendon). The champion trumpet was won by Mr W. H. (Ohai). The silver rose bowl (challenge trophy), to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals, for most points in the show, was won by Miss M. Dodds (Wairio). Other special prizes were: Cut flowers, Mrs W. Stevenson; industrial, Miss E. Marshall (Invercargill); floral decorations, Miss M. Dodds; produce, Miss M. Dodds; pot plants, Mrs G. Taylor.
