WOMEN’S TOURNEY AT SHIRLEY GOOD SCORE BY MISS C. SMITH (Special to The Times) CHRISTCHURCH, October 11. An open golf tournament for women, in which Southland players are competing, began at the Shirley links today. Two qualifying rounds were played, the best score being returned by Miss Claire Smith (Invercargill). She had rounds of 84 and 82, a total of 166. Miss T Henderson was the only other Southland player to qualify, her score being 180. , Miss Helen Buchanan (Christchurch) and Miss Smith tied for the best gross score, Miss Smith winning on the count back. Miss Smith will meet Mrs E. J. Pumphrey (Christchurch), and Miss Henderson will meet Miss Buchanan in the first round tomorrow.

The following team has been selected to represent Otago and Southland in the annual interprovincial match against Canterbury and West Coast, to be played at Timaru at the week-end:—D. C.
