Life-Saving Championships To Be Held
In spite of the international situation, the New Zealand centennial surf lifesaving championships are to be held at Lyall Bay, Wellington, next February. This decision has been made by the Dominion council of the association and is in full uniformity with the wishes of the Government.
So far no move has been made to cancel the visit of a team of Australian surf life-savers to the Dominion. The matter was fully discussed at a recent meeting of the council, and it was decided to hold it over until the annual meeting of the New Zealand Surf Life-Saving Association, when delegates from all over the Dominion will be present. In the meantime, the views of the Australian Association are being sought. It is likely that, if the Australian tour eventuates, it will not be on such an ambitious scale as the one originally planned. A few months ago it was decided that the team should consist of 19 men and a manager. It was to arrive in Auckland, and to split into two divisions, one to tour the South and one the North Island. The teams were to meet again in Wellington for the New Zealand and inter-Dominion centennial carnival. A surf-boat crew, surf-ski experts, and a rescue and resuscitation team were to b included. Whether or not the Australians are present, the championships will be well worth seeing. All district associations are expected to co-operate to the full in demonstrating the strength of the movement.
