PROPOSAL MEETS OPPOSITION
Government Control Of Acclimatization PETITION TO BE SENT TO MINISTER Strong opposition to the reported intention of the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) to submit to Cabinet a proposal that acclimatization in New Zealand be placed under the control of the Government has been aroused among various socities in the Dominion. This has taken tangible form and a petition is now being circulated for signatures to be sent to the Minister. This petition sets out eight reasons why acclimatization should not come under Government control, but should continue under the administration of acclimatization socidies* The last two claims on the petition state: —
It is thought that much valuable knowledge accumulated in societies and their members will be wasted if Government control takes place. It is thought that the cost of administering acclimatization and conservation by a State department would necessarily be heavy and result in licence fees for both shooting and fishing being considerably in-
creased. It is stated that the petition has the full support of all acclimatization, angling and other societies connected with angling and shooting.
