PORTUGAL FAITHFUL TO ALLIANCE
LISBON, October 10.
Speaking in the National Assembly Dr Oliveira Salazar (the Portuguese dictator) said: “Germany has informed us that she will respect our integrity and that of our overseas possessions if we remain neutral. Our consciences would be unhappy if, as friends who do not desert friends in their adversity, we failed immediately to reaffirm in full fidelity our alliance with Britain.”
