(Daventry Broadcast, 1.15 a.m.)

LONDON, October 10.

At least three of several German bombers engaged in unsuccessful attacks on British cruisers and destroyers in the North Sea have not returned to Germany.

Two of the machines made forced landings in Denmark and the crew of one bomber set fire to the aeroplane before being interned; they admitted taking part in the attack. The pilot of the bomber was a veteran of the Spanish war and wore decorations. All the members of the crew were very voung.

It is believed that a third German aircraft ’crashed into the sea off the Danish coast. A sound was heard similar to that caused by an aeroplane fall-

ing into the water, and flames were seen. However, when ships in the neighbourhood went to the scene there was no trace of an aeroplane. A fourth aeroplane made a forced landing on the south-west coast of Norway. A police guard'was placed over the damaged remains of the aeroplane and the members of the crew were interned.

This battle was first reported to the British Admiralty last night, when it was stated that during the day there had been repeated attacks bv German aircraft on British cruisers and destroyers in the North Sea out that the British ships had suffered no damage. GERMAN NAVAL UNIT ESCAPES BRITISH EFFORT TO COME TO GRIPS FAILS , LONDON, October 9. The British Admiralty announces that British forces endeavoured to engage a German naval squadron which was seen by British patrol craft south-west of Norway. Darkness enabled the enemy to escape.
