Invercargill Retains Rein Cup

WINTON DEFEATED IN CLOSE CONTEST After a close contest with Winton, the Invercargill Badminton Club’s B grade team retained the Rein Cup for 1939. The games, which were played on the Winton courts, were full of interest and the totals were: Invercargill, six rubbers, 16 games, 345 points; Winton, six rubbers, 14 games, 331 points. Details are as follows (Winton names first): — Men’s doubles—Hamilton and G. Horsburgh beat Sutherland and Thorburn, 15-9, 15-6; Stewart and R. Horsburgh lost to W. Mullen and E. Mullen, 9-15, 15-3, 8-15; McKenzie and Wood beat Bridgman and D. Maxted, 12-15, 15-1, 15-7. Women’s doubles—Misses Walker and Mathias lost to Mesdames Hamilton and Prendergast, 8-15, 6-15; Miss M. Lindsay and Mrs Milne lost to Misses Morton and Matheson, 4-15, 3-15; Misses Newman and Eoylen beat Mrs Sutherland and Miss Bulman, 17-18, 15-9, 15-10.

Mixed doubles—Horsburgh and Mrs Milne lost to W. Mullen and Mrs Hamilton, 15-11, 17-18, 8-15; G. Hamilton and Miss Mathias lost to T. Thorburn 'and Mrs Sutherland, 12-15, 9-15; G. Stewart and Miss Newman beat Sutherland and Miss Morton, 15-9, 15-12; R. Horsburgh and Miss M. Lindsay lost to E. Mullen and Mrs Prendergast, 12-15, 3-15; R. McKenzie and Mrs Walker beat Bridgman and Miss Matheson, 15-8, 4-15,- 15-5; J. Wood and Miss Boylen beat D. Maxted and Miss Bulman, 9-15, 15-9, 15-7.
