THREE TOURNAMENTS CANCELLED N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 13. The council of the New Zealand Golf Association has decided to cancel the three centennial tournaments which it was proposed to hold at Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington. The New Zealand championships meeting will be held, however, on the dates originally arranged. SOUTHLAND WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS UNPLEASANT CONDITIONS FOR QUALIFYING ROUNDS In extremely unpleasant weather yesterday the qualifying rounds of the Southland women’s golf championships were played on the Queen’s Park links. The day began with a light frost, remained fine but very cold till midday, and was showery, with a few flakes of snow thrown in, during the afternoon. The course was heavy and was playing much longer than it was at the weekend.

It was not surprising, therefore, that there were far more scores over 100 than under that figure; cold hands and slippery grips on the clubs were not conducive to good golf. In the morning only three players broke 100 and in the afternoon four succeeded in keeping under three figures. The holder of the title, Miss Claire Smith, was the only player to return a score under 90, her morning round of 86 being the best of the day. She qualified first with 176, 15 strokes ahead of the second player. In the junior grade Mrs E. J. Salisbury led the field by 10 strokes, her aggregate score being 205. The first and second rounds of match play will be decided today and the finals will be played tomorrow. For those not engaged in the championship matches, there will be a medal handicap this morning and a bogey handicap in the afternoon. Following are the results of yesterday’s play:—
