OREPUKI

TERRITORIAL FORCE ASSOCIATION A big and enthusiastic gathering of Orepuki residents unanimously decided to form a branch of the Southland Territorial Force Association in the district. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Orepuki Progressive League. Mr E. D. Bone explained the aims and objects of the association. Mr C. McKeown, president of the Orepuki branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, also addressed the meeting and stated that the club rooms would be available for meetings if an association were formed. He then moved that an association be formed in Orepuki. The motion was carried unanimously. Office-bearers were elected as follows: President, Mr E. D. Bone; secretary, Mr F. H. Shepherd; executive, Messrs H. Sorensen, N. McNay, P. Ready, J. Smith, C. McKeown, H. Popham, J. Hennessey, J. Shaw, A. Young, R. Lee, Townshend and the president and J. T. Simpson, A. McDonald. EUCHRE PARTY The series of fortnightly euchre parties held in aid of the Basketball and Tennis Club funds has concluded. On the final night, the supervisor, Mr L.

Matheson, thanked everyone for their attendance throughout the season. Prize-winners for the evening were: Women, Mrs McLean 1; lucky number, Miss K. Ericson; consolation, Mrs Breayley. Men, Mr A. D. Suddaby 1; lucky number, Mr C. Whelan; consolation, Mr F. Popham. Mrs McLean won the women’s aggregate prize for the season, and Mr A. D. Suddaby was successful in the men’s section. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING The highest score off the rifle at the Orepuki Miniature Rifle Club’s shoot was secured by A. C. McDonald. G. Whipp was the winner of the shoot off for the handicap button.
