LUMSDEN JULY WEATHER

INTERESTING DEBATE An interesting debate' took place at Lumsden between the Balfour ana Five Rivers branches of the Young Farmers’ Club. The subject of the debate was “That the Town Offers More Compensations Than the Country. The judge was the Rev. Bernard O. Pluinb. In awarding the decision to the Five Rivers’s team, the judge said he felt that Balfour had had the hardest task, since most of them must have been arguing against their real convictions, when they spoke for the town. Nevertheless, this was a useful aid to fair thinking. The judge commended the standard of debating ability displayed by both teams, besides pointing out individual merits and weaknesses.

The debate was followed by a dance; supper concluding a very successful and pleasant evening. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB There was a small attendance at the weekly shoot. G. Symmons won the handicap trophy with 79.2. Two special trophies for consistent targets were won by Dr L. G. Bell and W. Johnston. The three trophies were given by Mr G. Tomlin. The scores were as follows: Dr Bell 64-3-67; G. Symmons 72.2-16-79.2; W. Johnston 61-18-79; W. Clearwater 69.1-11-79.1; D. Matheson 76.1-4-79.16 M. Reidy 69.1-11-79.1.
