Mrs H. E. Watson, Clifden, is the guest of Mrs R. M. Strang, Lewis street. Mrs J. E. Macassey, Dunedin, is visiting her daughter, Mrs W. MacLean, of Pine Bush, Southland. Mr and Mrs J. Chilwell, Underwood, left by car yesterday to spend a holiday in Hanmer. There were 13 tables of bridge at play, when the Bridge Circle of St. Catherine’s Ex-Pupils’ Association held its fortnightly gathering in the Tudor Lounge on Tuesday evening. Mr and Mrs W. Kennedy (Invercargill) arrived by the Rangitane six weeks ago, and they left today by the same vessel on their return voyage, wrote the London correspondent of The Press, Christchurch on July 20. They have toured in England and in Scotland, where Mr Kennedy had numerous relations to see after an absence of 30 years in the Dominion. ton, Sussex, and Enid Louise, daughter of the late Dr T. S. Fleming, of Invercargill and Gore, and of Mrs Fleming, of Hove, Sussex. Later the young couple left for a motor tour of Scotland and the English Lakes.

An interesting newcomer to New Zealand £ Miss Gertrude Englander, a Viennese nurse who is a specialist in tuberculosis work. She arrived at Auckland by the Monterey on Friday, and at the week-end was a guest at the Nurses’ Residential Club, Wellington. She left this week for the Waipiata Sanatorium, Otago, where Miss M. Lambie, director of nursing, has secured her a post. Miss Englander left Vienna more than a year ago, and has since had nursing experience in London tuberculosis hospitals. SUCCESSFUL DANCE AT CLIFDEN TENNIS CLUB ARRANGES ENTERTAINMENT The Clifden Tennis Club held a successful dance in the hall on a recent evening. Coloured streamers made the decorations and Mr H. Dixon was master of ceremonies. A mystery dance was won by Miss K. Bradshaw and Mr G. Stewart. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Lee and Mr L. Laurie and a statue dance was won by Miss M. Morrison and Mr C. Owen. Among those present were Mr and Mrs D. Fowle. Mr and Mrs P. Gardner, Mr and Mrs Robin Gardner, Mr and Mrs Ralph Gardner, Mr and Mrs A. McLean, Mr and Mrs F. Bates, Mr and Mrs F. Noble.
