HIGHER RAILWAY REVENUE

RESULT OF INCREASED CHARGES FEWER PASSENGERS IN SOUTHLAND The railway revenue in the Southland district for the eight-weekly, period ended May 27 has been maintained at a slightly higher level in comparison with the same period last year. This is attributed to the 10 per cent, increase m freight and passenger charges. The number of passengers carried during this period was smaller by about 11,000. Sheep traffic was also smaller compared with the corresponding period last year, more than 30,000 fewer animals being carried. Comparative figures for the fourweekly period ended May 27 are:—
