WOODLANDS DEBATING SOCIETY
DISCUSSION ON SOCIAL SECURITY ACT
This week the meeting of the Woodlands Literary and Debating Society took the form of an inter-club debate, with the Tussock Creek branch of the Workers’ Educational Association. Mr Foley was chairman and extended a welcome to the visitors. The subject for the debate was: “That the Social Security Act is Advantageous.” The Woodlands team, consisting of Mr Foley (leader), Mr E. Trotter and Mr A. Campbell took the affirmative, and the visitors led by Mr J. Clark and supported by Messrs W Clark and Cuttins took the negative.
Mr Perrin, the judge, gave his decision in favour of Woodlands, the points being 217 to 212 J. At the conclusion, supper was served by the women, to whom Mr S. G. August proposed a vote of thanks.
