“TAGS” ON LOAN TO N.Z.
POSSIBLE ATTITUDE OF BRITAIN HIGH RATE OF INTEREST PREDICTED (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 8. The opinion was expressed in England that the New Zealand Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) would probably obtain the loan, he required, though probably at a higher rate of interest than would- have been the case had the New Zealand Government’s financial schemes not been so unorthodox, said Mr F. G. Williamson, of Wellington, who returned this week from a visit to England and the Continent. It was also considered certain that tags would be attached to the loan, said Mr Williamson, as a creditor lending money to a spendthrift debtor would naturally take some steps to safeguard his own interests and to see that the money was not thrown away. The experiments of the New Zealand Government were being watched in England with amused toleration, Mr Williamson said. Britain was not seriously concerned with them. There was a genuine feeling of goodwill towards the Dominion but there was possibly less confidence in the outcome of its present policy. , LUNCHEON AT HOUSE OF COMMONS (Received June 8, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 7. The Empire Parliamentary Association gave a luncheon to the New Zealand Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) and Mrs Nash at the House of Commons.
