WOMEN’S DIVISION

MATAURA BRANCH There was an excellent attendance at the monthly meeting of the Mataura branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs C. D. Taylor presided. A motion of sympathy with the relations of Mrs Thompson, of Brydone, was passed. It was decided to contribute £l/1/- to the Mataura branch of the Plunket Society. Two girls were elected delegates to attend the Educational Week in Invercargill. It was also decided to hold the annual ball on July 26. Mrs Emerson, of Croydon Siding, gave a demonstration of weaving, for which she received a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mrs Falconer. It was decided not to send a delegate to the annual conference this year. The flower competition was won by Mrs Hocking, Miss I. Dickie and Mrs Wallace being second equal. WAIMAHAKA BRANCH There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Waimahaka branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs D. C. Livingstone presided. Remits for the annual conference in Wellington were left with members for discussion. The president gave an interesting report of her visit to a meeting of the Southland executive. Proposals for forming first aid and singing classes were discussed and it was decided to make further inquiries. It was decided that during the winter months the meetings will begin at 7.30 p.m. WAIKIWI BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Waikiwi branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Waikiwi Hall. Mrs W. Robertson presided over a fair attendance of members. A money box was presented to a new division baby, each member contributing a small coin for the baby’s savings. . , , . An invitation was received from the Wrights Bush branch to attend its seventh birthday party. The roll call, “A holiday experience,” caused much amusement. A demonstration on how to clean a stained or soiled hearth-rug was given by Mrs Wilson and was followed with keen interest. Miss Neas thanked Mrs Wilson.

The best bloom competition resulted: Mrs Pedlar 1, Mrs Steel 2, Mrs Waters 3. The competition, “article made from one yards of boiling silk,” resulted:

Mrs McDougall 1, Mrs M. F. Broad 2, Mrs E. Broad 3. Mrs Steel thanked the hostesses, Mesdames Smart, Pedlar and Gerrard. The competition for next meeting will be “a baby’s crocheted or knitted bonnet.”
