VERMIN CONTROL
LEVY ON LICENCES SUGGESTED The opinion that the South Island Council should consider seriously the question of vermin control was expressed by Mr Eustace Russell at last night’s meeting of the council of the Southland Acclimatization Society. Some societies took steps to exterminate vermin and others did not, he said. There should be some united effort, and he thought a good idea would be to make a small levy on fishing and shooting licences for such purposes. Mr Robertson said that this was a subject that should be dealt with as a remit, and it was decided that the president (Mr S. M. Macalister) and Messrs Robertson and Russell be a committee to prepare remits.
