QUEENSTOWN

GOLF The King’s Birthday matches were played at Frankton in fine weather. The Wakatipu ladies’ championship was won by Mrs L. Jamieson, who returned 98, the runner-up being Mrs Hartley Smith, with 100. The hidden score contest, which was held concurrently with the ladies’ championship, was won by Mrs G. Herbert. In the morning a medal match over nine holes was played by the ladies,’ the best cards being Miss Henderson, 31 net, and Miss McLachlan, 33 net. The winner of the Wakatipu senior championship was A. Earl (Lumsden), with 157, and the runner-up Hartley Smith (Queenstown) with 167. The men’s junior championship was a draw between Ogilvy (Lumsden) and C. H. McKay (Queenstown), the honours going to Ogilvy on the count back over the last three holes. The men’s medal match was won by Stanley Wilkinson, who returned a net card of 62. N. Hall was runner-up with 65. Both Arrowtown and Lumsden were represented. After the games the president of the Queenstown Club (Mr H. Tomkies) presented the trophies. DRAMA CIRCLE The annual meeting of the Queenstown Drama Circle was held recently. Mr T. M. Brooks presided over a good attendance of members. The annual report showed that considerable success in the undertaking had been attained. Thanks were accorded to Miss Percy (producer), Miss Calder for the use of the Sunday school, which at that time was being used as the high school, the Rev. J. C. Fussell and Mr Worthington, for his tuition. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £6, The election of office-bearers resulted: President, Mr T. M. Brooks (reelected); vice-presidents, Dr W. A. Anderson, Messrs C. H. McKay, A. F. Griffen, W. D. Warren and Captain Herbert; general committee, the secretary, the president, Mesdames J. B. Hamilton and Stanton and Miss A. Calder; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Gauntlet-Curtis; producer, Mr T. M. Brooks. It was decided that the activities for the year should be on the same lines as last season—fortnightly play readings with a public presentation not later than October.
