Is Monday Washing Day?
Twenty fires occurred on Saturdays during the 1938-39 year of the Invercargill Fire Board which ended on March 31, according to the annual report of the superintendent (Mr F. S. Simpson) which was presented at a meeting of the board yesterday. Sundays were next on the list with 19 fires and Fridays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Mondays followed in that order. Mr D. Harris expressed surprise that Mondays were at the bottom of the list, those days being washing days, but another member remarked that evidently old customs had changed and washing was now done at the week-ends.
