GOOD ENTRIES FOR ANNUAL TRIALS

OPEN HUNTAWAY WON BY R. O. GARDNER’S TIM

Good entries were received for the Waiau Collie Club’s annual trials, which were held on Mr Panton Gardner's property at Lilburn. Following are the results: —

MAIDEN HEAD. Points: Run 20, pull 25, ring 5, command 10; total points, 60.

Also competed: J. O’Brien’s Bess, W. Miller’s Speed 40, Jim 444, C. Beer’s Help 40, J. Capil’s Chum, McLeod’s Lon failed, Robertson’s Jim 37, Watson’s Gracie 33, A. S. Gardner’s Rock 42, A.

Robertson’s Mac 43, J. Capil’s Ned 364, A. Sutherland’s Lass 47, Spot 12, J. Begg’s Tyke 43, D. Lawlor’s Wag 48. Don cast to the right, came in and was redirected several times and then went on to make a good head. He had a fair lift and made a good pull on the hill. He allowed the sheep a little off on the flat and held well. Maid cast to the right, ran too wide and then went on to head out of sight. She made a good pull on the hill but allowed the sheep a little off on the flat. She held well at the second attempt. Clyde cast to the right, ran rather wide at first and then went on to make a fair head, but failed to stop. He pulled in a good line to near the ring and then entered the back of the ring. He made a fair hold. Black cast to the right, made a fast pull and the sheep split on the face. He then pulled steadily, but allowed the sheep slightly off the line. He held at the first attempt.

Don cast to the right, came in and was redirected several times and then went on to make a good head. He had a fair lift. He allowed the sheep to the right at the start of the pull and then made a nice steady pull on the flat. The work at the yard was good. Bess hunted on the right, crossed the line twice and then went out to make a fair head and stopped. She made a steady pull in a fair line. Her work at the yard was good. She yarded at the first attempt. Snap hunted on the right, ran out on a good line and headed out of sight. He made a nice pull on the hill, but split the sheep at the rushes. His work at the yard was good. He yarded.

Lass hunted on the right, ran wide on the flat and made a good head. She allowed the sheep to the right at the start of the pull and then pulled in a good line, but rather fast. She turned tail at the yard and then did fair work and yarded. MAIDEN HUNTAWAY. Points: Hunt, 25; noise, 15; slew, 10; command, 10;

Jim hunted through the. first poles at the second attempt and then through the second poles near the right-hand pole. He let the sheep off the course slightly in going to the third poles. He completed a good run. Maid hunted through the first poles in a good line, but over-slewed going to the second poles. She still overslewed, but completed. Bounce hunted through the first poles and the second poles in good line, but kept too far off the sheep and missed the third poles.

Scamp allowed the sheep to the left at the start, then hunted in a good line through the first, and second poles. He split the sheep in going to the third poles.

Tim went through the first poles in good line, the dog showing good style and command, and through the second and third poles in a very good line. The hunt was good and noise, slew and command good. Rock went through the first poles in fair line after .. little trouble on flat, through the second poles in good line and through the third poles in good line. The dog was rather far off the sheep. Hunt, noise and slew were fair and command good. Lass went through the first poles after a little trouble, the dog over-slewing and splitting the sheep once. She went the second, poles after the

second attempt and time was called just before the third poles were reached. Jet went through the first poles, but was rather close to the top one and through the second poles in a fair line. The dog was inclined to take the lefthand slew too much. Hunt and noise were fair. HEAD, PULL AND HOLD IN RING. Points: Outrun, 20; pull, 25; ring, 5; command, 10; total, 60.

She made a nice pull to the cabbage tree and there let the sheep off the line to the right. She then recovered and pulled in a fair line to the ring. She held well at the first attempt. Spark cast to the right and ran out on a fair line, but made a close head. He made a fair pull but allowed the sheep off the line. He held well at the first attempt. Clyde hunted on the right, ran out on a very good line, but a little close at the head. He allowed the sheep a little off the course at the start of the pull and then pulled steady in a good line till near the ring. He entered the back of the ring. There was a fair hold.
