QUEENSTOWN

TEACHER BIDDEN , FAREWELL

Parents and residents of Lower Shotover bad farewell to Mr B. Findlay, who for the past two years has been sole teacher of the school and who has been transferred to Wellington. During his term in Shotover Mr Findlay was a keen sporting enthusiast, being a member of the Country football team and coach to the basketball team. He was also responsible for the scheme to form the tennis courts which were recently orened. Mr T. Hoiston, chairman of the School and Hall Committees, speaking on behalf of the tennis club, referred to Mr Findlay’s good qualities and said how sorry the parents were to lose his services. He then presented Mr Findlay with a well-filled wallet with the best wishes of the residents and parents. Mr J. Bagrie (Basketball Club) and Mr A. Buchanan (Football Club) also spoke. Mr Findlay thanked those present for their kind wishes and said he deeply regretted leaving the district. Dancing then took place, the music being played by Roman’s orchestra. Mr J. McLean was master of ceremonies.
