Miss Nancy Buchanan was hostess at a gift evening recently in honour of Miss Kathleen Lumsden, who is to be an Easter bride.

Mesdames J. Holland and E. Foster were joint hostesses at a laundry afternoon for Miss Kathleen Lumsden, who is to be married shortly. Miss Kiti Bradshaw and Miss Lorna Dawson, Bluff, will leave by the Maunganui on Monday for a holiday in Wellington. Mrs N. R. Gerrard, formerly of Winton and now living in Tauranga, completed at the Auckland Croquet Tournament and won the handicap singles championship. Mrs Gerrard and her partner, Mrs Herbert Lewis, of Tauranga, were also successful in winning the handicap doubles. Visitors from Winton who attended the Marshall-Muir wedding on Wednesday were Mr and Mrs J. Marshall, Mr and Mrs S. G. Anderson, Mr and Mrs T. A. Hazlett, Mr and Mrs R. C. Stenhouse, Mr and Mrs H. On Thursday afternoon the members of the Georgetown Croquet Club were the guests of Mrs D. Robinson, the president, at tea in the Tudor Lounge. Opportunity was taken to bid farewell to two members, Mrs Wood, who is

leaving to live in Wellington, and Mrs Betteridge, who is making an extended trip abroad. Gifts from the club members were presented to both guests of honour. Those present were Mesdames Betteridge, E. H. Wood, Welleans, J. Anderson, W. Rogers, A. McKenzie, J. Murray, F. Murray, H. Lang, W. Dawson and J. Stewart.

At a morning tea given yesterday by tbe executive of the Southland Children’s Health Camp Association, a presentation was made by the president, Mrs E. V. McKeever, to the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs J. R. Hanan, of a silver entree dish. Both Mr and Mrs Hanan replied. Mrs McKeever, on behalf of the executive, also made a presentation to Mr and Mrs W. M. Clare of a pyrex dish set in silver, as a token of appreciation for the great kindness and interest shown by them towards the children whilst in camp. Others present" were Mrs Stanley Brown, Miss Grace Basstian, Mr M. Miller and Mr J. Pickard.

WEDDING

McKINNON—WILKINSON

The wedding recently took place at the Methodist Church, Riverton, of Mary Florence Elizabeth, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs N. Wilkinson, South Riverton, and John Albert, eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr J. A. McKinnon, of Riverton. The Rev. J. M. Blight performed the ceremony and Miss Borland played the organ. Mr John Marr, of Invercargill, was best man and Mr Norman McKinnon, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman. Messrs George Wilkinson and Vernon McKinnon were ushers. During the signing of the register, Mrs Nelson Wilkinson sang “Bless This House,” and again sang at the reception.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of magnolia satin. The high-waisted bodice was gathered in the front on to a rounded yoke, embroidered with gold soutache braid. The high neckline was finished with a posy of orange blossoms and tiny buttons and loops trimmed the back of the bodice. The puffed sleeves were gathered up the centre on to a plain strap from the shoulder, which was also embroidered with gold braid, and were tight fitting from the elbow to the wrist. They finished in a point over the hands. The skirt was moulded to the figure to the knees, where it fell in folds in front and formed a short pointed train at the back. Her embroidered veil fell from a gold tinsel and orange blossom halo and she carried a sheaf of lily aratum. ~ , , The bridesmaids were Miss Mabel Wilkinson and Miss May Simpson, who wore twin frocks of clover taffeta. Each bodice was gathered up the centre and formed a V-shaped neckline finished with a large gold brooch. Tiny covered buttons trimmed the back of the bodice which was finished with a large bow and sash. Each bridesmaid wore a gold tinsel halo and carried a shower bouquet of fuchsias, asters and maidenhair fern. Later at the reception, the guests were received by the bride’s mother, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother. Mrs Wilkinson wore a black selfstriped tailored costume, black hat, stole and shoulder spray of apricot-coloured roses. Mrs McKinnon wore a floral frock under a navy tailored coat, stole, and shoulder spray of scarlet abutilons. For travelling, the bride wore a blue wool crepe frock, trimmed with felt flowers in a paler shade, blue hat and accessories to match, and carried a musquash coat, the gift of the bridegroom. Prior to her marriage, the bride was entertained at a gift evening by her girl friends and was also made a presentation from the Methodist Church congregation of which she is a member. Mr and Mrs J. A. McKinnon’s future home will be "The Rocks,” Riverton.

Miss R. Brick, Brookvale, Orawia, has returned to her home after visiting Christchurch.

Misses B. and K. McNeill, Thornbury, and Miss Bessie Teviotdale, Isla Bank, returned yesterday from Christchurch. Miss Eva Withington, Tay street, has left for Wellington, where she will spend a month’s holiday with her father, Mr F. Withington.

Mrs E. Munnings was hostess at an afternoon party in honour of Miss Doris Wilson when each guest brought a gift. e

Mr and Mrs T. Harrison, Robertson street, and Mr and Mrs M. Craig, Netherton, Dipton, are at present making a tour of the Southern Lakes and Central O'.ago.

Mrs Minhinnick, of Auckland, who has been visiting Stewart Island and Eglinton Valley, is at present in Invercargill and will leave for the north next Wednesday.

Mr and Mrs C. R. Hart, Albert street, and their guest, Mrs Nisbet Smith, New Plymouth, leave today for Eglinton Valley and the Homer tunnel, where they will spend the week-end. A kitchen evening was given to Miss Girlie Hales by the residents of Queenstown, on the occasion of her approaching marriage. The function took place in the Town Hall where there was a big gathering of friends. During an interval in the dancing Mr W. xi. Overton wished Miss Hales every happiness, and presented her with a big collection of useful gifts. Dr W. A. Anderson also spoke. The music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs Romans and G. Mitchell. Dr Anderson was master of ceremonies.

Mrs J. D. Campbell and Miss B. Humphries were hostesses at an afternoon on Tuesday in the Tudor Lounge in honour ?f Mrs Creesey, who is leaving Invercargill to reside in Gore. Mrs Campbell, on behalf of those present, asked Mrs Creesey to accept a gift with best' wishes for her future happiness. Those present were: Mesdames Creesey, Orr, McArthur, Mcllwraith, Faircloth, McKnight, Williamson, Wilson, Mclntosh, McLauchlan, Campbell; Misses Humphries and Creesey (2).

PARTY AT RIMU

MISS JEAN GRIEVE GUEST OF HONOUR A social evening given by the Rimu Church Committee in honour of Miss Jean Grieve, who is to be married shortly, was held in the Rimu hall. There was a big gathering of residents and members of the Invercargill Baptist Church and the Oteramika, Woodlands, Kennington and Roslyn Bush Bible Classes were also represented. Games and competitions were held and vocal items were given by Mr and Mrs Schroder (Invercargill), pianoforte duets by Miss Jean Caldwell and Miss Dorothy Anderson. Music for the games was played by Miss Dorothy Anderson. Mr H. Schroder gave items on the pianoaccordion. During the evening Mr T. Guthrie, on behalf of her friends, presented Miss Grieve with a beautifully bound Bible. Mr C. Bulling also spoke of her good work in the Sunday school and as church organist. The Rev. Mr Wyness replied on behalf of Miss Grieve.

GORE Miss C. M. West, Crombie street, spent the week-end at Dunedin. Misses Mac Gibbon, Huron street, East Gore, are spending a holiday at Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs G. C. Hamilton, Albany street, have returned from a holiday at Lake.Hawea. Mr and Mrs Ussher, of Sumner, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs M. Ussher, Main street, have returned home. Miss Ida Rhodes, Huron street, East Gore, left on Saturday to spend a holiday at Gisborne. Miss Kathleen Kerr, of Dunedin, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Horrell, Irving street, has returned home.

Mr and Mrs Hugh Middlemiss, of Green Island, and their small son are at present visiting Gore and are the guests of Mr and Mrs John Kirk, Stratford street.

The guest of honour was Miss Phyllis Gordon, who was bidden farewell in view of her approaching marriage. During the evening, Mr W. Members of the committee of the Wyndham Plunket Society held a sale of cakes and produce on Thursday afternoon. The sum of £8 was realized and a competition for a fruit cake was won by Mrs R. McLellan. Those in charge were Mesdames A. and J. Young, E. A. Pankhurst, R. Pauli, C. S. Gordon and D. N. A. Macpherson.
