JUNIOR CHAMPION WHO IS WELL UP TO SENIOR STANDARD. —C. McGregor (Otago) winning the 220 yards championship from R. White (Canterbury) and G. Leonard (Canterbury) at the national junior championship meeting at Auckland last Saturday. McGregor is also the Otago senior sprint champion, and judging by the times he put up at Auckland it is possible he would have played a big part in the decision of the senior national titles at Napier, if he had been able to make the trip. On Saturday on a track which is stated to have been in poor condition McGregor won the 100 yards championhsip from A' Court (Wellington) in 10 l-ssec, the same time taken by F. P. Sharpley in winning the senior title at Napier. In the 220 yards championship McGregor, won comfortably in 23sec. Credit for recording the fastest time over a furlong run by a New Zealander this season goes to McGregor, who, at the North Otago championships, won the 220 in the smart time of 22 2-5sec. There was no wind; the only "assistance” McGregor received in his fine effort was from the track, which was in splendid order, and is, in fact, probably the fastest running track in the South Island.
